KELO TV Employees Volunteer At DakotAbilities As Part Of National Founder's Day Event

Staff members from KELO TV gave their time and attention to people supported by DakotAbilities as part of Nexstar Media's 29th annual Founder's Day event. We were honored to be one of five local nonprofits chosen for this special day. With soaring June temperatures outside, we took advantage of our Longfellow Center gym by setting up adaptive basketball, bowling, and bean bag games for all to enjoy. We closed the morning with arts and crafts projects and a rousing game of UNO.
For the KELO volunteers, it was an opportunity to learn more about DakotAbilities' 60-year history in Sioux Falls and actively participate in our mission to foster relationships and advocate for people with disabilities. For people supported, it was a chance to make new friends and bond over the kinds of shared experiences we all enjoy - sportsmanship, creativity, and good-natured competition.
"The energy in the room, the smiles, and the laughter made for a great morning," said Heather Craig, education and support manager at DakotAbilities, who was responsible for planning and organizing the activities. "That time together created a lasting impression on all of us, and we hope KELO will join us again. The gift of time and taking a genuine interest in someone is more valuable than people realize."

We are grateful for the support KELO TV has shown us as part of their Tradition of Caring campaign, and through their hands-on volunteer time.
