Accessible Housing Expansion in Sioux Falls Set for July 2026
DakotAbilities will celebrate a significant milestone in accessible housing with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 29, marking the opening of newly constructed twin homes designed for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The new homes represent our continued commitment to providing safe, accessible, person-centered housing that promotes independence, dignity, and community inclusion. These two twin homes replace one 16-person home, built in the 1980s, and are dedicated to on-site skilled nursing care to ensure people with complex medical needs receive the support they need while living in a neighborhood setting.
In March of 2025, DakotAbilities opened two accessible twin homes that replaced aging residential properties, thereby eliminating all instances of shared bedrooms. Ground was recently broken on another twin home in Sioux Falls, with completion anticipated in the summer of 2027. The expansion reflects the nonprofit’s commitment to the people they support by investing in existing homes and building new homes to ensure each person has the privacy and amenities they deserve.
“These homes represent more than brick and mortar,” said Nathan Stallinga, Executive Director at DakotAbilities. “They reflect our belief that people with disabilities deserve to live in welcoming neighborhoods, enjoy privacy, develop meaningful relationships, and be an active part of daily life at home. Our expansion demonstrates our commitment to creating accessible housing options that meet the evolving needs of the people we support, and to meeting the demand for affordable, accessible housing as Sioux Falls continues to grow.”
