You have an assignment!

Autumn begins on September 22. In anticipation of that glorious season, we are holding a special contest. Yes, just what you are hoping for: A haiku competition (yea!)! Put on your creative beret and start cranking them out. We will feature all of them in a special eNewsletter on September 22 and readers will vote for their favorite. Let's kick it off when a recent haiku written by poet, Paula Goldsmith.

leaves for raking

Extra credit if you reference DakotAbilities in yours. Have you forgotten the rules to writing a haiku? Well, here is a haiku to help you with your haiku:

Counting Syllables

The first line has five
The second line has seven
The third line has five

Good luck! Send your assignment here before September 22.

Summertime is Fun Fair Time

We took full advantage of fair fun with outdoor concerts, rides, and games of chance. From the Sioux Empire Fair to the Turner County Fair we found something for everyone.

Summer is for Camp

The camp at Trent has been around longer than anyone can remember. Once a week a group of people supported by DakotAbilities head up there for a day of riding around the pastures feeding cows, fishing, driving a tractor, &/or riding a horse. They then have lunch and participate in a sing-a-long. The camp has always been run 100% by volunteers.

For a full week we get to celebrate our remarkable Direct Support Professionals. The week will be filled with fun activities and rewards and it will end with the announcement of our DSP of the Year. Do you have a DakotAbilities DSP you would like to thank? Or maybe you are grateful for the staff at a particular home or day services. Send a message here and it will be posted all week for everyone to see. Photos are welcome as well!

Judging by the looks of our tomato plants, September promises to bring bountiful tomatoes. If your plants (or your tomato source) looks similar, we have included a very easy recipe for tomato sauce. All you need is a large pan and an immersion tool. If you don't have one yet, get one! You will use it every time you make soup.
