We just want you know you mean the world to all of us at DakotAbilities!

A Room of Their Own

Our own construction season has begun. Click on Independence & Dignity Through Personal Space to learn more. Construction is currently being done at the Valley home. At the end of this 2-year project, every person who lives in a DakotAbilities' home will have the option of their own bedroom and bathroom. The homes involved are also receiving several upgrades and improvements. Would you like to be part of providing independence and dignity? Contact Jenn at

The Joys of Independence

In our recent Friends & Family survey we asked for personal stories. The aunt of one woman we support was happy that her niece had learned to ride the bus by herself so she could get to her volunteer job and other appointments.

Chad's dad is thrilled with his accomplishments. Chad often does laps in his apartment if it is cold or around the block if it is nice. When he does his laps he uses a walker. His dad's pride is understandable because as he stated, "He wasn't expected to be able to walk at all."

Recognizing each person's maximum potential while helping them manage the needs that come with their disability is what the caring people of DakotAbilities do every day.

A few months ago we unveiled the Disney exhibit at Morrison. DSP Katy and several housemates helped create this joyful wall. Due to being in homes because of COVID, it just got cheerier with the additions of Looney Tunes' Marvin the Martian and the Tazmanian Devil (Taz).

Have you ever examined your own philosophy of making donations? The Institute for Sustainable Philanthropy has some fascinating insights:

  • Philanthropy (and giving to charities) are forms of love.
  • We give to organizations we trust.
  • When we make something good happen, it increases our own wellbeing.
  • Giving is one part of your relationship with an organization.
  • When we give to something we believe in, it is part of who we are.
  • Giving with love and trust is not a sacrifice. It is a celebration.

You are part of DakotAbilities and we are part of your life. That is what philanthropy is all about!

June 6 we will host our 15th annual golf classic. Teams are sold out but you can still be a sponsor! Just click on the golf photo and get your business name in front of 36 teams.

Thank you for being you!

Working together, we create opportunities and meaningful lives for people with disabilities.
