The new year has kicked off with some chilly weather. Okay. It's been just plain cold. But the homes of DakotAbilities and Longfellow Center know how to stay safe and warm when the temperature plummets and the snow falls. We just mix in some fun! Think of them as cures for the common cold.
Anytime of year is a good time to visit the Butterfly House and Marine Cove but when it is cold, it is one of the warmest places in town. Letitia enjoyed being right in the middle of fish. Kelsey takes a lesson in clay from a Washington Pavilion staff member. Carl and Nikki got a jump start on making their valentines.
Sara and staff member, Julie mix up a batch of homemade slime. Employees of Great Western Bank gave a class on personal finance. Who enjoys household chores? Michael does! He has discovered doing laundry is fun and has made it his official job in his home.
As you can see, we don't let weather slow us down. There is plenty to do around town, at Longfellow Center, and in our homes. Our first priority is always each person's safety and wellness so we have all learned how to turn frigid days and Blizzard Days into fun days.
How to Become a Rock Star (the easy way)
Jacky has a message for you. He wants you to buy at least one of these red bags the next time you shop at Hy-Vee. Why? Because when you purchase one then enter the secret code on the attached tag, Hy-Vee will send DakotAbilities $1. That could turn into a lot of support for Jacky and all of his friends at DakotAbilities. Since sales began in October of 2019, over 250,000 single-use plastic bags have not been used thanks to the program!
Buy a bag and choose DakotAbilites as the donation recipient and in Jacky's opinion you are officially a Rock Star!
There are at least two ways to get that sensation of being warm and comfy to your very core. One way is to get in a hot tub.
The other way is to make a difference in someone's life. You already know the many ways that it works for you. It happens when you make a donation, volunteer your time, send a card to an old friend for no reason, check on a neighbor, etc. Imagine if we all made a vow to ourselves to make a difference to someone else every single day. We wouldn't even notice the cold!
