DakotAbilities' Neon Spring Dance (or How We Shook Off the Winter Blahs)
Friday evening, April 12 was a evening of celebration, collaboration, and community. Last winter, a blizzard prevented the individuals of DakotAbilities from attending the annual dance hosted by Celebrate Church. It didn't take long to make a plan to hold our own dance at Longfellow Center. Celebrate Church offered to volunteer and an anonymous donor sponsored the event. Enjoy a few photos of the evening.
Upon entering the dance, attendees had the option to get their hair and makeup done. They were also given neon necklaces. Several volunteers from Celebrate Church helped decorate and cheered people on as they entered the dance through a lavish archway and red carpet. Intoxicakes donated the cupcakes with neon frosting.
The room was glowing with lights and smiles. Chaz and Pam energetically led the singing and dancing. It was the first dance held in Longfellow Center and we are already planning future events.
It's kind of like a planting a garden - with magic.
In the last issue you read about the new Behind the Cape Giving Club. We explained how the people we serve are the real Super Heroes and as a member, your monthly gift provides them with opportunities, experiences, and support every day. Every. Single. Day.
No one will argue that our individuals are indeed Super Heroes. But stop and think about where their powers come from. (Here is where the magic comes in.) Their powers come from you. Your gifts, your volunteerism, and your advocacy give them the power to believe in themselves and stand taller with greater confidence. They then become more fulfilled and want to be more active in the community. Our community realizes that it is even better with greater inclusion and pride in living here soars. Including yours. It's a wonderful cycle of growth and harvest.
Since introducing Behind the Cape, the response has been extraordinary. We know not every one wants to be or will be a monthly donor, but those that have chosen to participate are feeling their power source surge.
Want to get Behind the Cape with us? Here's how:
Join one of three ways:
1. Set up automatic payments through your bank as you would any bill
